About: The Special Nutrition Programs Unit (SNP) of the Nutrition Services Branch, Division of Public Health has been awarded a grant entitled, Kids Eat Smart Move More from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), to promote better nutrition and increased physical activity among children in child care settings. The priority areas of this grant are to: 1. Promote nutrition and physical activity in child care settings that reflect the recommendations of: a. The most recent version of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans published under Section 301 of the National Nutrition Monitoring and Related Research Act of 1990 (U.S.C. 5341); and b. The most recent scientific knowledge; 2. Provide technical assistance and training to sponsors and providers of child care centers and family and group day care homes in implementing State or local initiatives designed to improve the health and nutrition of children; 3. Perform outreach campaigns on the State and local level that are designed to increase access to the program in underserved areas and populations; and 4. Make innovative use of technology to provide training and education to promote the nutrition, physical activity and health of children.

The SNP Unit is seeking an individual to:Manage schedules and resources to meet project deadlines; Supervise and monitor work of project staff;Coordinate statewide training activities for Kids Eat Smart Move More; Develop educational materials for parents;Coordinate breastfeeding friendly child care program; Provide training to SNP staff on Kids Eat Smart Move More; Develop monitoring tool for Kids Eat Smart Move More; Coordinate the collection and evaluation of data gathered from the Kids Eat Smart Move More grantees; Submit reports to USDA as required by grant solicitation; Review and evaluate quarterly and final reports submitted by Kids Eat Smart Move More grantees; Develop outreach campaign for Kids Eat Smart Move More; Any other duties necessary to meet project goals and objectives.

Qualifications: Graduation from a four year college or university with a major in foods and nutrition. Effective communication skills (both written and verbal) with individuals and groups are necessary to administer program services and training to Institutions. Prefer an individual with knowledge of and the ability to implement and train others on menu planning, nutrition and physical activity. Additional preferred knowledge, skills, abilities, training, experience: Prefer experience in child nutrition and/or USDA Child Nutrition programs and ADA Commission on Dietetic Registration or Licensed Dietitian/Nutritionist in North Carolina. Prefer an individual with grant implementation and training experience.
