The Department of Medicine, Solna, is one of the largest departments at Karolinska Institutet. The department consists of several units that are separated into different research groups. The core activities of the department are research, doctoral education and undergraduate education for medical and biomedical students. The research has three main profiles: allergy, cardiovascular medicine and inflammatory diseases.
Division The position will be placed in Lars Maegdefessel’s research group, within the Cardiovascular Genetics and Genomics Group (CGGG) led by Anders Hamsten.
Duties The project focuses on the role and therapeutic potential of microRNAs in different vascular diseases. We are investigating various molecular regulations in different disease models by using various molecular techniques, enabling us to discover changes in microRNA as well as target gene expression and function. In addition, further novel drug targets for different vascular diseases, as well as environmental factors, are to be investigated. The position will also require that 10% of the time is dedicated to teaching.
Entry requirements To qualify, the applicant must hold a doctor´s degree or a qualification deemed equivalent to a doctorate in the field of medicine, biomedicine or biology.
The applicant is required to have extensive experience in rodent models of cardiovascular diseases. Furthermore, the applicant must have broad knowledge of current genetic determinants and epigenetic regulation of cardiovascular disease in both humans and rodents. The applicant is expected to have theoretical and practical knowledge of cellular immunology, histology and flow cytometry. The position will require extensive collaboration with other groups both within KI and externally; therefore the applicant must have excellent communication skills and be fluent in English. Fluency in Swedish is not a requirement. The applicant should have experience in teaching both theoretical and practical cardiovascular medicine. The applicant is required to have excellent organizing skills and have experience in co-ordinating the activities of technical staff and researchers.
The credentials required for a position as a senior research fellow/assistant professor include a PhD or equivalent scientific competence, as well as documented postdoc research work. Pedagogical competence or some other form of professional competence that is relevant to the duties associated with the position may also be required.
In assessment of the candidates, particular emphasis will be placed on academic skills, and the ability to perform the required tasks.
