About: The Department of Exercise and Health Sciences at the University of Massachusetts Boston invites applications for a non-tenure track full time lecturer position to begin September 1, 2013. The department is one of the fastest growing departments on campus, currently consisting of nine tenure-system faculty, full- and part-time lecturers, and approximately 620 undergraduate students. The current undergraduate program offers a Bachelors of Science degree with concentrations in Health Sciences, Exercise Science, and Fitness Instruction and Management. In addition, the department's newly established Master's and Doctoral programs will begin in September 2013. Faculty in the department are actively engaged in research and are funded by various sources including NIH, CDC, and other internal and external funding agencies with areas of research ranging from basic/fundamental to population-based science, including areas such as: new technologies to reduce obesity, inactivity and other chronic health concerns in children and teens; physical activity measurement across the age spectrum; and physical activity and nutrition interventions adapted for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We are seeking a faculty member with demonstrated abilities to teach courses in areas that address contemporary issues related to physical activity and health. Specific areas of expertise may include fitness assessment, exercise physiology, exercise prescription for health and sport performance, nutrition, and health behavior change. The faculty member will also assist in student advising, serve on various department or university committees, and participate in academic program planning.
Requirements: Candidates must have: 1) earned Master's degree (doctorate preferred) in exercise science, kinesiology, nutrition, psychology, or related areas; and 2) university level teaching experience (which may include experience as a graduate teaching assistant) in the area of exercise and health sciences, kinesiology, nutrition, health behavior, or related fields.
