Cornell NutritionWorks offering upcoming online courses in Preventing Childhood Obesity: An Ecological Approach. Course is March 14 – April 24, 2012.

Special Team Opportunity for Extension Nutrition and 4-H Teams: We are targeting this online course to teams of 3-5 people that include at least one county-based extension nutrition educator, one county-based 4-H agent, and one community partner. If you don’t work for Cooperative Extension, contact your local extension colleagues and consider being the community partner. To encourage teams with this composition to enroll, we will be offering a half-price enrollment fee of $75/person for up to three people per team. Other teams and individuals will be accepted in the course at the regular price on a space available basis. Those interested in the special team opportunity should contact Christina Stark, at cms...cornell.edu, to obtain permission from the facilitator and information on how to register.

Post-Doc Research Fellowship Position Childhood/Adolescent Obesity Research at the Survey Research Center, University of Michigan's Institute for Social Research.

About: The Survey Research Center at the University of Michigan’s Institute for Social Research is seeking a post doctoral research fellow to work on a national study of environmental influences on behaviors associated with overweight among youth. Work would focus on the ongoing national study Youth, Education, and Society (YES), which is in its 14th year of continued funding, and is part of the Bridging the Gap research program sponsored by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. The social environments under study are American secondary schools.

About: Voices into Action: The Families, Food, and Health Project aims to partner with communities to improve access to healthy, affordable food and safe places to be active. We are seeking a part-time research assistant who will help conduct mixed-method 24-hour food recalls with mothers and other female caretakers of young children. The first part is a traditional quantitative 24-hour food recall and the second part is a qualitative, semi-structured interview that aims to better understand the circumstances around each identified eating event. The position is associated with a USDA-funded project on the structural (social, cultural, political, economic and environmental) factors that contribute to childhood obesity among limited-resource populations.

Associate Project Director for an NIH-funded, Longitudinal Study of Childhood Obesity in Five NJ Cities

About: The associate project director (research analyst) will provide research support and coordination to a major study addressing the impact of changes in the environment on childhood obesity. Funded by the NICHD (NIH), the research follows a panel of children in five New Jersey cities over five years. The associate project director will be responsible for collecting data on changes in the food and physical activity environment in the cities and coordinating other data collection for the project.
