Public Health Fellowship at The American Public Health Association (APHA) announces a call for applications for the 2013 APHA Public Health Fellowship in Government. Deadline to apply: April 9, 2012.

APHA is looking for candidates with strong public health credentials who wish to spend one year in Washington, D.C. working in a CONGRESSIONAL office on legislative and policy issues such as health, the environment or other public health concerns. The fellow will have the opportunity to see first-hand how public policy impacts public health and to offer their public health expertise to policymakers.

About The National Cancer Institute (NCI), a major research component of the National Institutes of Health and the Department of Health and Human Services, is pleased to invite applications from qualified candidates for a Cancer Research Training Award (CRTA), with an emphasis on health behaviors research. The CRTA appointment, is a one- or two-year position with the Health Behaviors Research Branch (HBRB), Behavioral Research Program (BRP), Division of Cancer Control and Population Sciences (DCCPS) of the National Cancer Institute. The position will allow the applicant to interact with a large number of scientists representing the disciplines of nutrition, behavioral sciences, obesity prevention, physical activity, skin cancer prevention, gene-environment interactions, behavioral genetics and other disciplines within public health, at the NCI, the NIH and at institutions around the country. The Cancer Research Training Award provides an outstanding opportunity for an individual with a strong interest in health behaviors and cancer control to gain experience working with an extramural behavioral scientist at the National Cancer Institute.

DNPAO’s Nutrition Branch works to improve the health of mothers and children nationwide by achieving the Healthy People 2020 breastfeeding objectives, especially among populations with low breastfeeding rates. Activities focus primarily on policy and environmental strategies that protect, promote, and support breastfeeding.
