The position: The Department of Family Medicine and Community Health (FMCH) at the University of Minnesota Medical School is excited to announce the availability of a post-doctoral research fellowship position in the Medical School’s Program in Health Disparities Research. Eligible candidates will have a doctoral degree in public health, behavioral science, health education, health communication, sociology, anthropology, social psychology or a related discipline. The primary responsibility of the post-doctoral fellow will be to assist in building active programs of translation and dissemination research related to obesity prevention and policy. The position will primarily focus on the nutrition and physical activity policies and practices of youth serving settings, especially related to underserved populations. Secondarily, the applicant will collaborate with a team to examine health disparities in youth and young adult obesity, and the role of chronic psychosocial stress, particularly childhood and adolescent exposure to violence. Applicants should have excellent interpersonal and writing skills and strong training in applied research. The ideal candidate will be proficient in managing and analyzing complex longitudinal datasets.

Job Description: Non-tenure track, full-time, grant-supported position in Nutritional Sciences, focusing on obesity prevention and food safety education intervention trials. The successful candidate must have demonstrated experience successfully procuring grant funding, mentoring students, reporting research findings in peer-reviewed venues, and designing theory-driven interventions. The successful candidate also will have proficiency in motivational interviewing, social-cognitive theory constructs, conducting/managing applied nutrition intervention programs and clinical trials, and online survey software, and will have experience working with low-income community participants and community-based teaching. Candidates must possess a masters degree or higher in nutrition, health communications, or other related field, and hold active Registered Dietitian (RD) credential. Faculty members are expected to be active scholars; develop a significant body of refereed publications; mentor and train grant-related student assistants; engage in appropriate department, college, and university committees; and provide occasional guest lectures (as invited) and presentations to community groups. The successful candidate will also be expected to work closely with colleagues in related centers and institutes.

Description: The Pennington Biomedical Research Center, a research facility of the Louisiana State University System, is seeking a full time Postdoctoral Researcher to study clinical and population level walking behaviors across the lifespan and disease conditions including obesity. The primary responsibilities associated with this position are: 1) assistance in conducting complex statistical analyses of population datasets, 2) conducting research clinical intervention studies, and 3) preparation of research grant applications and research papers. It is anticipated that over the course of two years, the incumbent of this position will develop independent research projects related to the epidemiology of walking behavior, obesity and health. Work would focus on the ongoing national study Youth, Education, and Society (YES), which is in its 14th year of continued funding, and is part of the Bridging the Gap research program sponsored by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. About: Rescue Social Change Group (Rescue SCG) is seeking an experienced public health policy change professional to lead Rescue SCG’s policy change efforts in tobacco control and obesity prevention in Virginia. The Public Health Policy Campaign Manager (PHPCM) will work exclusively on campaigns associated with a youth movement called Y St. (read Y Street). Y St. is fully managed by Rescue SCG and is based on Rescue SCG’s proprietary Outcome-Oriented Youth Engagement Model (OOYE). The Y St. program recruits, trains, and supports high school youth as they participate in policy change activities such as collecting petitions, testimonials and letters of support. A team is currently in place to lead and support these youth, generating thousands of signatures, letters, and other policy change support items. The PHPCM would be responsible for the development, launch, and management of the youth-generated public support to further policy change initiatives and, at times, succeed in changing health policy at the local, state, or national level. The PHPCM would be expected to serve as a strategic leader (developing campaign strategy, etc) as well as a community change agent (working directly with stakeholders and partners to progress change).
