UNC Department of Nutrition, Gillings School of Global Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, is offering the following post doc position to work on the SEARCH for Diabetes in Youth, Nutrition Ancillary Study. The overall goal of the SEARCH Nutrition Ancillary Study (SNAS) is to examine associations of nutritional factors with 1) the progression of insulin secretion defects, and 2) the presence of CVD (cardiovascular disease) risk factors in youth with T1DM (type 1 diabetes mellitus).

Post-doctoral Fellowship in Childhood Obesity Prevention Policy and Practice Research Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN, USA. Open until filled.

The position: The Department of Family Medicine and Community Health (FMCH) at the University of Minnesota Medical School is excited to announce the availability of a post-doctoral research fellowship position in the Medical School’s Program in Health Disparities Research. Eligible candidates will have a doctoral degree in public health, behavioral science, health education, health communication, sociology, anthropology, social psychology or a related discipline. The primary responsibility of the post-doctoral fellow will be to assist in building active programs of translation and dissemination research related to obesity prevention and policy. The position will primarily focus on the nutrition and physical activity policies and practices of youth serving settings, especially related to underserved populations. Secondarily, the applicant will collaborate with a team to examine health disparities in youth and young adult obesity, and the role of chronic psychosocial stress, particularly childhood and adolescent exposure to violence. Applicants should have excellent interpersonal and writing skills and strong training in applied research. The ideal candidate will be proficient in managing and analyzing complex longitudinal datasets.

UNC Department of Epidemiology, Gillings School of Global Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, is offering two postdoctoral positions.**

  1. UNC Postdoctoral Position on Human Papillomavirus Research in Men Postdoctoral position available immediately in research related to male circumcision and HPV infection in men in collaboration with Dr. Jennifer S. Smith, PhD, MPH, Associate Professor of Research. Requirements: Doctoral degree in Epidemiology or other public health field. Successful candidate is expected to work with the PI and other study collaborators, including biostatisticians, on the writing of manuscripts of research data from a randomized controlled trial of HPV and male circumcision conducted in Kisumu, Kenya. The postdoctoral candidate will be expected to work with the PI on this and other HPV-related projects, and prepare research manuscripts for publication in international peer-reviewed journals.

Postdoc in human energy metabolism and body composition at the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland, USA. Deadline unknown.

Details: A fellowship position is available at the National Institute of Diabetes & Digestive & Kidney Diseases, one of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) located in Bethesda, Maryland. The successful candidate will conduct experiments at the new state-of-the-art NIH Obesity Clinical Research Center to study whole-body macronutrient metabolism and the regulation of body weight and composition. Specific projects include, but are not limited to: 1. Adaptations of energy expenditure during over- and under-feeding 2. Macronutrient balances responsible for body composition changes during weight gain and loss 3. Metabolic effects of varying dietary macronutrient composition 4. Effects of dietary protein and exercise on body composition and energy metabolism These projects will be conducted as part of a unique interdisciplinary research team that includes a computational modeling approach to design, predict, and analyze experiments on whole-body human metabolism and quantitatively integrate these data to better understand the system as a whole. Applicants should possess an M.D. or Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry, Physiology, Nutrition, or a related field. The successful candidate will have a strong quantitative understanding of whole-body macronutrient metabolism and experience conducting whole-body metabolic experiments including indirect calorimetry, body composition assessment, biomedical imaging, and isotopic tracer methods for measuring whole-body fluxes. Description: The Pennington Biomedical Research Center, a research facility of the Louisiana State University System, is seeking a full time Postdoctoral Researcher to study clinical and population level walking behaviors across the lifespan and disease conditions including obesity. The primary responsibilities associated with this position are: 1) assistance in conducting complex statistical analyses of population datasets, 2) conducting research clinical intervention studies, and 3) preparation of research grant applications and research papers. It is anticipated that over the course of two years, the incumbent of this position will develop independent research projects related to the epidemiology of walking behavior, obesity and health. About: INSPIRE at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (RWJMS) is a postdoctoral training program combining research training (70% effort) with preparation for and experience in teaching science to undergraduate students (30% effort). The INSPIRE (IRACDA New Jersey/ New York for Science Partnerships in Research and Education) Program, supported by an IRACDA (Institutional Research and Career Development Award) from the NIH, provides three years of support for postdoctoral fellows, with the option of extension of training supported by other sources. The INSPIRE Program fulfills two important goals: prepare university-trained Ph.D. scientists for careers as scientist- educators in undergraduate colleges while increasing the participation of diverse populations in biomedical science research. We also anticipate that the program will increase interaction of RWJMS faculty with students and faculty of the partner schools.
