About: The Institute for Prevention Research (IPR) and the Department of Preventive Medicine at the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California invites applications for a full-time position(s) at the associate professor or professor level. IPR includes faculty who conduct research on disease prevention with particular emphasis on risk behaviors among youth and families including substance use, obesity. IPR is well known for the conduct of large community and school based field trials. There is a growing team of environmental prevention researchers collaborating on health problems and solutions in the built environment across schools at USC, including physical activity and eating behavior as risk factors for obesity.  Comprehensive measurement and analysis of environmental risk factors would complement existing expertise represented among our faculty.

About: The Program in Human Nutrition in the Department of International Health at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health is recruiting a full time tenure track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. The program has a strong focus in its research on nutritional problems in low and middle income countries, especially addressing micronutrient deficiencies and their role in maternal and child health, function and survival, promoting normal child growth and development, and in preventing chronic disease, including obesity, through diet, physical activity, and environmental change. Working within a multidisciplinary setting, the new faculty member will be expected to establish an independent research program on the roles of diet and other nutrition interventions in influencing child development, including growth, cognition and behavior. The Department has on-going nutrition and health investigations in multiple cultural settings through which the successful applicant will have opportunities to build and lead this agenda.

About: The Human Nutrition Program in the University of Michigan School of Public Health, Department of Environmental Health Sciences is seeking candidates for a tenure-track position at the Assistant or Associate Professor in the area of Physical Activity and Nutrition. This recruitment is paired with a parallel position in the School of Kinesiology and the faculty hired into these positions will have appointments in both the Schools of Public Health and of Kinesiology. The successful candidate will have demonstrated capability or substantial promise to develop a rigorous, externally funded research program focusing on the translation of knowledge about nutrition and physical activity to clinical and/or public health practice. Applicants at the Assistant Professor rank must demonstrate a record of high quality publications in peer-reviewed journals and the potential to secure competitive, external research funding. Those applying at the Associate Professor rank must have a well-established academic record of independent scholarship, including a sustained record of high quality publications and an externally funded research program. Priority areas include: the development and evaluation of effective programs, policies, and/or communication strategies to improve nutrition and physical activity behaviors to prevent and control obesity and related chronic diseases; methodological research on dietary, physical activity and body composition assessment; and epidemiologic research on determinants of physical activity and nutrition outcomes and consequences across the lifecycle. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in the highly collaborative, interdisciplinary environment of the University of Michigan to design and implement novel dietary and exercise interventions to control obesity and obesity-related diseases in clinical and population-based settings. The faculty will also be expected to participate in interdisciplinary undergraduate education related to Physical Activity and Nutrition and will take an active role in student advising and the supervision of students participating in internship and research opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students and trainees.

Description: Iowa State University seeks applications for two 9-month, tenure-track faculty positions in Nutritional Sciences at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition. Successful candidates will be expected to establish a productive research program with strong extramural support. Research expertise in an area related to the interactions between nutrition and molecular aspects of disease is desirable. Areas of interest include but not limited to maternal and child development, fetal origins of disease, and nutrient-gene interactions. Successful candidates will demonstrate an ability to work collaboratively within the existing research strengths of the department, including the Nutrition and Wellness Research Center and will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in their area of expertise and mentor graduate students. Service on department, college and university committees, and participation in national/international professional organizations is expected. The proposed start date is August 2012 but is negotiable.
