About: East Carolina University is seeking applicants for an assistant/associate professor, tenure-track 9-month faculty position in Kinesiology with an emphasis in exercise psychology/behavioral science or related area such as health psychology/behavioral medicine with a specific interest in physical activity and exercise. A doctoral degree in Kinesiology or related field is required with training in Exercise Psychology. The successful candidate will develop a nationally recognized research program evident by a strong publication record. Seeking external funding is expected. Substantial opportunities for collaborative research exist with faculty in the College of Health and Human Performance, Brody School of Medicine, and Departments of Public Health, Psychology, and Nutrition Science. Responsibilities will also include directing master’s thesis research, graduate and undergraduate advising, and teaching with a specific focus in areas such as exercise adherence and the psychology of physical activity.

Cancer Research Training Award (CRTA) Fellowship in the Health Behaviors Research Branch of the National Cancer Institute; deadline to apply: Feb 10, 2013.

About The National Cancer Institute (NCI), a major research component of the National Institutes of Health and the Department of Health and Human Services, is pleased to invite applications from qualified candidates for a Cancer Research Training Award (CRTA), with an emphasis on health behaviors research. The CRTA appointment, is a one- or two-year position with the Health Behaviors Research Branch (HBRB), Behavioral Research Program (BRP), Division of Cancer Control and Population Sciences (DCCPS) of the National Cancer Institute. Research Assistantship with Peers for Progress, Chicago, IL

Peers for Progress has available a Research Assistantship in conjunction with its project examining peer support and diabetes management in primary care and community settings. The overall project includes a demonstration project with Alivio Medical Center in Chicago and the development with the National Council of La Raza of a National Peer Support Collaborative Learning Network. Activities of the RA would span across these and include help in coordinating patient surveys, program evaluation, development of materials for the Collaborative Learning Network, preparation of reports and manuscripts (with opportunity for sharing in authorship) and others as may be identified in conjunction with project needs and the RA’s interests. Salary would be on a base of $7,000 (USD) for the semester, with option for tuition assistance depending on the RA’s level of interest and projected involvement in the program. Continued funding after this semester is also available as the project will run through December of 2014.

Launched in 2008, TRANSPERS is a first-of-its-kind research center dedicated to developing evidence-based information for patients, providers, industry, researchers and policymakers to objectively assess how personalized medicine can be most beneficial and efficient in improving health outcomes. The goal of the TRANSPERS Center is to advance the translational continuum for personalized medicine to ensure that new personalized medicine technologies can be used most beneficially and efficiently in clinical care. To date, TRANSPERS has received over $10 million in funding via awards from the National Cancer Institute, National Human Genome Research Institute, the Blue Shield of California Foundation, the Aetna Foundation and the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, and continues to focus on bringing together a broad spectrum of stakeholders from academia, government and groups representing patients, providers and payers.
