Bilingual Community Health Educator at Ponce School of Medicine and Health Sciences (PSMHS) Moffitt Cancer Center (MCC), Tampa, FL; position open until filled.

Job Summary: The Health Educator is a professional who develops implements and evaluates educational programs for community members, partner agencies, professional community audiences and other health providers. The community cancer prevention and awareness educational services will focus efforts in the Ponce School of Medicine and Health Sciences (PSMHS) -Moffitt Cancer Center (MCC) Partnership defined target areas and specifically selected community sites in Tampa, FL and Ponce, Puerto Rico. Effective educational strategies will be utilized with an emphasis on prevention and health promotion. The Health Educator will also coordinate the provision of cancer awareness and preventive health education services in the community and act as a resource person in a capacity building role. Educational materials and other media and communication messages will be developed in a variety of venues, e.g. group and individual teaching modules, displays, radio or television messages, etc. The health education program initiative provides an emphasis on prevention as an effective strategy to improve community health and change health behaviors, e.g. seeking cancer-screening services. Educational activities planned and developed will be consistent with national imperatives relating to the provision of culturally and linguistically appropriate education. Travel required to Puerto Rico and Washington, DC. Must be able to travel 30% of the time.

The University of Florida is seeking to fill a grant-funded, half-time Family and Consumer Sciences Program Extension Agent position in Palm Beach County, Florida. The Program Extension Agent will teach the National Diabetes Prevention Program for high-risk, low-income clientele as part of a grant project through the University of Florida. I am the Principal Investigator for this project, which we are implementing in collaboration with Molina Healthcare. The grant is funded through September 2016 (since we are hiring our staff now, I anticipate that the end date may be extended to February 2017).

About The National Cancer Institute (NCI), a major research component of the National Institutes of Health and the Department of Health and Human Services, is pleased to invite applications from qualified candidates for a Cancer Research Training Award (CRTA), with an emphasis on health behaviors research. The CRTA appointment, is a one- or two-year position with the Health Behaviors Research Branch (HBRB), Behavioral Research Program (BRP), Division of Cancer Control and Population Sciences (DCCPS) of the National Cancer Institute. The Cancer Research Training Award provides an outstanding opportunity for an individual with a strong interest in health behaviors and cancer control to gain experience working with an extramural behavioral scientist at the National Cancer Institute.
